On his 70th birthday, Shu Chien's colleagues put together a 600-page book of letters, essays, and photographs as a tribute not only to his contributions to the field of bioengineering but also in honor of his character as a valued friend, research collaborator, and family member. Pioneering Bioengineer Shu Chien Teaches Lessons That Extend Far Beyond Research Lab From the stories that emerged during a two-day celebration in honor of Shu Chien’s retirement, it’s clear that he is a beloved mentor who inspired his students, colleagues and collaborators to make the world a better place. Perhaps they thought that the book would commemorate the moment when Chien began to consider retirement.
